Behind the scene

For Le Lapin de Noël I wanted something as close to traditional animation as possible. All the characters are hand-drawn with pencil on paper. Each frame is then scanned and coloured individually . The backgrounds are done with pencil & watercolours.

Once the characters are coloured and the background scanned, the elements are combined in After Effects to create a shot.

Frames from the walk cycle of a background character. Each one of these is scanned, coloured and set in a sequence to create the walking loop.

Here are some of the backgrounds. Line drawing on one sheet, colours on an other. This allows the retouching of certain colours if needed. For exemple to make sure a building, a sidewalk, or a street is roughly the same colour over multiple shots.
